Worcester, Mass. - Freshman Maggie Fontana scored a game high 17 points to lead Holy Cross to a 68-42 victory over the University of Massachusetts in women's basketball action this evening at the Hart Center.

Early in the first half the Minutewomen and Crusaders looked evenly matched, trading basket for basket until the 12 minute mark. The Crusaders went on to score 19 unanswered points in just under 10 minutes to leave the Minutewomen trailing by 21 at halftime.

Junior Jennifer Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Minutewomen in scoring. Junior Siiri Liivandi (Rapla, Estonia) had 10 points and two steals, while junior Amber Sneed (Cincinnati, Ohio) chipped in seven points and five assists.

The University of Massachusetts falls to 0-1 overall on the season, while the Crusaders improve to 1-0.

The Minutewomen return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 20 when they take on St. Peter's in their home opener at the Mullins Center. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
