Softball Set For Midweek Contests At Rhode Island, Home Against UMass Lowell

The Minutewomen wrap up the A-10 series at Rhode Island tomorrow and host UMass Lowell on Wednesday.

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team is set for a pair of midweek games at Rhode Island and home against UMass Lowell. The week begins with the third and final game of the Atlantic 10 series against Rhode Island tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Sweep, Sweep
The Minutewomen picked up the series sweep over St. Bonaventure at Sortino Field over the weekend. UMass stormed back to take game one with three runs in the bottom of the seventh as Grace Cadden, Bella Pantoja and Chloe Whittier each drove in runs in the frame. The Minutewomen racked up 15 hits in a 9-4 game two win behind multi-hit games from Pantoja, Payge Suggs, Kristina Day and Jules Shields. In game three, UMass came back from behind two runs twice to secure the series sweep as the team finished with 11 hits in the 7-5 win.
Wrapping Up The Series
UMass and Rhode Island wraps up a three-game Atlantic 10 series after the Minutewomen swept the doubleheader in the weather-shortenened series on March 20. Abby Lamson drove in the game-winning run in a 8-7 10-inning win to open the doubleheader while Chloe Whittier and Jules Shields each drove in a pair of runs in an 8-2 game two win.
Bella's Big Weekend
Bella Pantoja posted a .727 batting average on 8-of-11 at the plate during the three game series against St. Bonaventure. Pantoja added two walks for a .769 on-base percentage and recorded three extra base hits to post a 1.091 slugging-percentage. The sophomore finished with two or more hits in all three games, including a 2-for-2 perfromance in game oen with a RBI, a double and two walks. Pantoja finished with three hits in both games two and three and wrapped up the series with three runs, a RBI, a double and a triple in game three.
Kendra And Amy Get On Base
Kendra Allen ranks second in the A-10 and 56th nationally in walks per game at 0.66 while Amy Smith ranks fourth in the league and 63rd in the country with 0.65 free passes per contest.
Tough Out
Chloe Whittier ranks sixth-toughest to strike out in the Atlantic 10 and inside the top-150 nationally with just over 13 at-bats per strikeout. Whittier ranks fourth on the team in batting average at .270 and leads the team in RBI with 24 while ranking second in hits with 31.
Looking Ahead
The Minutewomen remain at home this weekend for a three-game series against Saint Joseph's on Sortino Field as part of five straight home games. The series against the Hawks begins on Saturday with noon doubleheader before wrapping up on Sunday with game three at noon. The Minutewomen host Dartmouth on Wednesday, April 27 at 4 p.m. before hitting the road for their next five games.
