Softball Set For Six Games This Week

UMass will play three mid-week games on the road before returning home to take on Saint Louis.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts softball team opens up a six-game week tomorrow afternoon with a contest at Boston College, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Brighton Athletics Village. The Minutewomen (20-10 Overall, 9-0 Atlantic 10) will continue mid-week play on the road for a doubleheader at Marist on Thrusday before returning home for a three-game series against Saint Louis this weekend.
 
UMass heads into the six-game slate as winners of 10 straight games after picking up their third sweep of a league opponent over the weekend against Saint Joseph's. The 20-10 record through the first 30 games of a season marks the best start for a UMass team since the 2010 campaign. The Minutewomen outscored the Hawks 20-7 over the three-game series while hitting .342 as a team with a .455 on-base percentage. Jena Cozza and Melissa Garcia led the way with averages of .800 and .750 respectively while Kiara Oliver picked up two wins in the circle to move to 11-2 on the season.
 
On the season, UMass is led by Jena Cozza at the plate with a .506 batting average and team-leading numbers for runs, doubles, RBI, slugging-percentage, walks and on-base percentage. Cozza continues to climb up the UMass career record list, ranking third all-time in career batting average (.406) and second in slugging-percentage (.719) while currently owning the UMass record in career on-base percentage with a .500 clip. Among all of Division I, Cozza owns the top mark in runs per game while ranking within the top-five in batting average, hit-by-pitch per game, on-base percentage, RBI per game and and slugging-percengage.
 
Erin Stacevicz ranks second on the squad with a .380 average to go along with 41 hits and 26 runs scored while posting a .485 batting average in league competition. Kaycee Carbone adds a .361 batting average through 30 games with six home runs and 34 RBI after driving in seven during the Saint Joseph's series.
 
The Minutewomen won their last meeting against Boston College (19-15 Overall) a season ago, picking up a 2-1 win on the road behind RBIs from Stacevicz and Kaitlyn Stavinoha while Meg Colleran tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts and no earned runs allowed. Both teams head into the Tuesday matchup as winners of their last 10 games.
 
The week continues on Thursday with a doubleheader at Marist beginning at 2 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. UMass owns a 3-1 all-time record against the Red Foxes (15-21 Overall) after splitting a doubleheader in their last meeting in 2015.
 
On Saturday, UMass returns home to Sortino Field for an Atlantic 10 play doubleheader against Saint Louis (21-16 Overall) at noon. The Minutewomen won the series last season with two wins on the road, taking both games of the series-opening doubleheader by two runs in each win.
