Bryant Up Next For Minutewomen

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball will travel to Smithfield, Rhode Island to face Bryant (12-35, 7-9 NEC) Tuesday, May 2, at 2 p.m. The Minutewomen are 24-20 overall and 12-4 in Atlantic 10 play, winning all six of their league series. Since March 11, UMass has won 21 of its 27 games.
A Look Back
UMass hosted a three-game with La Salle April 29-30. The Minutewomen fell in game one, 6-5, but bested the squad, 6-5, in game two. On Sunday, the Minutewomen came out on top, winning 5-4 to take the series. Junior Meg Colleran picked up her 15th win of the season on Sunday.
Atlantic 10 Roundup
As a squad, Massachusetts leads the Atlantic 10 standings given the head-to-heard tie breaker with Fordham. The Minutewomen rank No. 3 in team pitching with a 3.00 ERA and No. 2 in opposing batting average with a .235. The squad ranks No. 5 in the league with 321 hits.
The Bulldogs
Bryant fell to LIU Brooklyn in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 30. Senior Lauren Keast paces the squad's offense with a .265 batting average. Freshman Gabrielle Ermish leads the team's pitching with a 3.10 ERA, throwing 117.1 innings and striking out 58 batters.
Jen Cozza Comeback
Senior Jena Cozza has been explosive in her return to the lineup. During the La Salle series, she took 10 at-bats with four hits, five RBI and two home runs. Her home runs gave UMass the lead in game two and tied game three. The Minutewomen won both contests. Cozza batted .400 while posting an on-base percentage of .500 and a slugging percentage of 1.100. She knocked in an RBI in each game and hits in 2-of-3 games. She's now reached base in five-straight games. UMass is 11-4 with Cozza in the lineup. She missed the first 29 games with an injury.
In The Circle
Junior Meg Colleran (15-10) and freshman Candace Denis (8-8) are splitting the starts for UMass. Colleran has an ERA of 2.67 in 23 starts and 17 complete games (152.1 total innings). Denis has an ERA of 2.78 in 18 starts and 18 complete games (118.1 total innings).
Sophomore Studs
Kaitlyn Stavinoha's .366 batting average is good for No. 2 on the team with 34 RBI and one home run. Sophomore Kaycee Carbone sits at No. 5 on the squad with a batting average of .285, 35 hits and 12 RBI. Sophomore Erin Stacevicz's .335 batting average is good for No. 3 on the team with 52 hits and 31 runs scored.
