UMass will open up the weekend on Friday with game one at 3 p.m. before a Saturday doubleheader.

AMHERST, Mass. The University of Massachusetts softball team heads to Washington, D.C. this weekend for their first Atlantic 10 road series of the season against George Washington on Friday and Saturday at the Mount Vernon Athletic Fields. The Minutewomen (14-10 Overall, 3-0 A-10) head into the weekend fresh off a sweep of La Salle at home to begin league play while the Colonials (22-8 Overall, 2-1 A-10) enter the second week of play as winners of two out of three against St. Bonaventure.

The three-game series will now open up with a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. with the series wrapping up on Saturday with games two and three set to begin at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed live on the A-10 Digital Network. UMass won the series last year by winning the final two games of a series that was originally scheduled to be a home series for the Minutewomen, capping off the weekend with four unanswered runs to win on a Kaitlyn Stavinoha RBI in the bottom of the seventh in game three.

The UMass offense came out swinging to open up league play last weekend, racking up 36 hits over the three-game series against the Explorers with a .400 team average at the plate with 26 runs score to La Salle's three. Erin Stacevicz led the way with a .615 average on eight hits to go along with six RBI while freshman Amy Smith earned six total free passes while going 4-of-5 with a .909 on-base percentage.

Meg Colleran picked up a pair of wins in the circle on her way to being named the A-10 Co-Pitcher of the Week, going 2-0 while allowing just one hit in each outing. In Saturday's series opener, Colleran retired 10 straight La Salle hitters and surrendered her one and only hit with two outs in the fourth inning in route to a 7-0 win. The senior right-hander picked up her 50th career win on Saturday and held the Explorers to a team batting average of just .080 in eight innings.

The entire UMass pitching staff allowed just three runs in three games as Kiara Oliver went 1-0 with nine strikeouts in six innings pitched while Quinn Breidenbach tossed five innings of shutout softball with seven strikeouts in her two relief appearances. Oliver owns a 7-2 record in the circle this season through 15 appearances and 10 starts, striking out 77 batters in 70.1 innings pitched while leading the league in strikeouts per seven innings.

On the season, Jena Cozza continues to lead the Minutewomen at the plate with a .500 average to go along with team-leading numbers in RBI (29), slugging-percentage (1.028), total bases (74) and on-base percentage (.625). Stacevicz's weekend moved the junior into second on the team with a .375 average while Kaycee Carbone ranks second in RBI with 26 and home runs with six.

UMass returns home to Sortino Field for a mid-week doubleheader against UAlbany on Wednesday at 2 p.m. before hosting Saint Joseph's for a three-game slate on April 7-8.
