Game One – Notre Dame 11, UMass 9 - Box Score
The Minutewomen stormed back from down 7-0 after the third inning to tie it up at 7-7 in the bottom half of the fourth. Notre Dame (8-7 Overall) brought in three runs in the second inning on a pair of singles and three total hits to go ahead 3-0. The Irish added four more runs on four hits in the top half of the third inning to go ahead by seven runs before the UMass offense heated up in their next at-bat.
After three consecutive walks to open up the inning, Carbone crushed her first home run of the day, a grand slam with two outs to bring the Minutewomen within a pair of runs after Jackie Kelley scored on a wild pitch earlier in the inning.
The offense kept it going in the next time up as Carbone and Melissa Garcia each walked home a pair of runs to tie it up at 7-7 before Notre Dame regained the league in the top of the sixth to go up 8-7.
Carbone's second home run of the game and third in the last two contests came in the following half inning as the junior hit a two-run shot to right field to score Kaitlyn Stavinoha and put UMass ahead 9-8. Carbone finished the game with seven RBI on 2-of-3 at the plate.
A pair of back-to-back singles to leadoff the top of the seventh inning allowed Notre Dame to bunt two runners into scoring position on their way to scoring three runs in their final at-bat to give the Irish an 11-9 win in a tightly contested game.
Jena Cozza added a pair of hits and scored two runs while Stavinoha and Erin Stacevicz each crossed the plate twice in the opening game of the doubleheader.
Game Two – UMass 9, Delaware 5 - Box Score
Five different Minutewomen drove in runs while seven recorded hits as UMass put together runs in each of their final three innings, rallying back from down 3-1 in the eventual 9-5 win over Delaware (1-10 Overall). Madison Gimpl drove in three runs to pace the offense while Cozza and Caroline Videtto each put together multiple-RBI performances in the win.
UMass struck first in the opening inning as Stavinoha doubled down the right field line to score Cozza from third. Cozza went on to cross the plate two more times in the game to bring her season total to a team-leading 17 runs scored on the season.
Delaware answered with a run of their own in the next inning after two singles to open up the inning set up a sacrifice fly to tie it up at 1-1 before a pair of RBI base hits in the third gave the Blue Hens a 3-1 advantage.
Cozza got a run back in the fifth inning to start the UMass comeback with her first home run of the game, a two-out solo shot to right center field that pulled the Minutewomen within a run.
Gimpl drove in her first run of the game in the sixth inning to tie it up before Caroline Videtto drove in her first run on her first collegiate hit later in the inning to put UMass up 4-3.
Cozza's second and final home run of the game jumpstarted a five-run seventh inning as the senior homered to lead things off. The home run marked the seventh in the last six games for Cozza on her way to passing Tiffany Meeks (2011-14) for sixth-most home runs all-time at UMass before moving into a tie for fourth all-time with 28 career home runs.
Carbone's eighth RBI of the day and first of the game drove in a run to extend the lead to three prior to Gimpl driving in a pair of runs on her way to recording her second and third RBI of the game. Videtto secured a multi-RBI performance later in the inning, driving in the ninth and final run of the game for UMass.
Delaware added their final runs of the night on a two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
Meg Colleran improved to 2-2 on the season as she tossed a complete game while striking out seven batters total and three looking. Stacevicz went a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate on her way to scoring her third run of the day in game two.
