BATON ROUGE, La. – Freshman Hannah Bunker extended her hitting streak to three games as the University of Massachusetts softball team fell to No. 8-ranked LSU on the final day of the Tiger Classic Sunday afternoon, 7-0.
Bunker extended her hitting streak in the top of the third inning on a single to shallow left field for the first UMass (1-3 Overall) hit of the afternoon. Jena Cozza followed with a deep ball to left field that was caught on the warning track to end the inning.
Shemiah Sanchez put the Tigers (4-0 Overall) on the board in the first inning after a leadoff walk led to a two-run home run to left field before UMass turned a double play to end the bottom half of the first. LSU went ahead 4-0 in the third inning as a leadoff triple and two singles brought in a pair of runs before a three-run home run from Amber Serrett extended the lead to seven.
Kiara Oliver tossed 4.0 innings in relief of Meg Colleran, striking out five batters while allowing three hits and three earned runs. The freshman tossed 15.1 innings over the weekend, striking out 17 batters while holding opposing hitters to a .218 average at the plate.

Bunker sent a ball to shallow left field with runners on first and second, but was denied her second hit of the afternoon and a RBI after a diving catch with Shea Newsome rounding third.
UMass will return to action next weekend as they head to Madiera Beach, Fla. for a five-game slate at the EMU Madiera Beach Spring Invitational beginning with UNC-Greensboro on Friday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m.
