Minutewomen Play Three at SJU

AMHERST, Mass. University of Massachusetts softball (20-19, 8-3 Atlantic 10) will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to face Saint Joseph's (18-20, 9-3 Atlantic10) for a three-game series April 22-23. The Minutewomen open play on Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday's finale is set for 12 p.m.
 
A Look Back
Since March 11, UMass has won 17 of its last 21 games. The Minutewomen played at Connecticut and at Boston College on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, picking up a loss in Storrs (7-1) and a win in Chestnut Hill (2-1). Junior Meg Colleran earned her 12th victory of the season vs. the Eagles.
 
Atlantic 10 Roundup
Massachusetts sits at second in the Atlantic 10 standings and is fourth in total wins (20). The Minutewomen rank No. 3 in team pitching with a 3.00 ERA and No. 2 in opposing batting average with a .234. The squad ranks No. 4 in the league with 279 hits, No. 5 in batting average (.265) and fifth in stolen bases (52).
 
Freshman Candace Denis is No. 3 among league players in stolen bases (21) and leads the conference in opposing batting average (.202). Colleran is No. 4 in wins (12). In assists, sophomore Kaitlyn Stavinoha is No. 2 (105) and sophomore Kaycee Carbone is No. 5 (86).
 
The Hawks
Saint Joseph's is riding a nine-game win streak, with recent victories against Delaware, St. Bonaventure and Penn State. Sophomore Ashley Ventura paces the Hawks in the circle with a 2.17 ERA after pitching 132.0 innings and striking out 98 batters. Sophomore Amanda Kulp's .415 batting average is good for No. 1 on the team, with 44 hits, 11 RBI and 26 runs scored.
 
Cozza Comeback
Senior Jena Cozza was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Monday. She paced the Minutewomen to a 5-2 record in the last two weeks, including two wins over previously top-ranked Fordham.
 
She made her defensive season debut against Fordham, playing all three games at third base. She batted .500 over five contests with eight hits, seven runs scored, four RBI and her first home run of the season. She now leads UMass' offense with a .414 batting average with a total of 12 hits, six RBI and eight runs scored.
 
In The Circle
Colleran (12-9) and Denis (7-8) are splitting a majority of the starts for UMass. Colleran has an ERA of 2.80 in 20 starts and 15 complete games (127.2 total innings). Denis has an ERA of 2.53 in 16 starts and 12 complete games (108.0 total innings).
 
Sophomore Studs
Stavinoha is now second on the team with a .362 batting average, 32 RBI and one home run. Carbone sits at No. 5 on the squad with a batting average of .291, 32 hits and leads the team with two homeruns. Sophomore Erin Stacevicz's .336 batting average is good for No. 3 on the team with 46 hits and 29 runs scored.
