Softball Wins in Seventh at GW

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball picked up a 4-3 win to take the weekend series with George Washington and move to 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play. UMass sits at 12-15 overall while the Colonials fall to 14-16 and 1-5 in league action.
Junior Meg Colleran started on the mound and pitched a full seven innings, earning her second win of the weekend against George Washington. She struck out four batters and gave up seven hits and only two earned runs.
The Minutewomen were down 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh but strung together a rally to produce three runs and take the lead. Freshman Kate Dennis and sophomore Erin Stacevicz reached with singles and freshman Candace Denis drove them in with a single. Sophomore Kaitlyn Stavinoha ended the game with a hit to drive in Denis, putting the Minutewomen ahead 4-3.
UMass will host a doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson, at Sortino Field, Wednesday, April 5. Game times are set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
