Double Header With Boston U. Thursday in Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball (8-14) will host a double header with Boston University (8-18) on Thurs., March 30. Games are slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Sortino Field.
A Look Back
The Minutewomen currently hold a five-game winning streak after picking up two wins in Stockton, California, on March 15. UMass defeated Lehigh, 6-1, to open the day and ended with a 5-2 victory over Pacific. UMass' three-game set with St. Bonaventure (March 25-26), to open Atlantic 10 play, was cancelled due to field conditions and inclement weather.

As a squad, Massachusetts ranks No. 3 in the league with a total of five triples, and No. 4 with 30 successful stolen bases. Freshman Candace Denis' .182 opposing batting average and 1.75 ERA rank No. 1 in the Atlantic 10.
The Terriers
Boston University sits at 8-18 after posting an 0-3 outing against Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In the circle, senior Makinna Akers leads the squad with a 3.87 ERA, pitching 50.2 innings and striking out 27 batters. Senior Moriah Connolly leads BU's offense with a .369 batting average, 31 hits and 26 runs scored. Senior Gabi Martinez's four home runs, 24 hits, and .304 average ranks No. 2 on the team.
Freshman On Fire
Denis was selected as a Co-Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 27-March 5 for her stellar performance at the Bulldog Slamboree. On the season, she's 16-of-17 in stolen base attempts and bats .292 with 21 hits, 18 runs scored, and seven RBI.
In The Circle
Denis paces the Minutewomen with 72.0 innings pitched and nine complete games. She holds an ERA of 1.75 in 11 appearances with 10 games started, and is fourth in the league for 62 strike outs and 15 looking. Junior Meg Colleran has started 10 games for a total of 54.1 innings pitched and a 4.64 ERA.
Sophomore Studs
Sophomores Kaycee Carbone, Kaitlyn Stavinoha and Erin Stacevicz are off to a strong start for the Minutewomen. Stavinoha leads the team with a .348 batting average, 18 RBI and one home run. She has five multi-hit games and leads the team with four multi-RBI games.
Carbone leads the team with her seven-straight on-base game streak, and she also maintained a five-game hitting streak this season. She's No. 4 on the squad with a batting average of .262.
Stacevicz's .308 batting average is good for No. 2 on the team with 24 hits and 15 runs scored. She leads the team with six multi-hit games and put together a nine-game hitting streak to open the season (Feb. 17-March 4).
