The 5-9, 170-pound defenseman was No. 187 among North American skaters listed in NHL Central Scouting’s Final Rankings for the 2018 NHL Draft.

AMHERST, Mass. – Marc Del Gaizo, a 5-9, 170-pound defenseman from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, has signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Massachusetts hockey program, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Tuesday. Del Gaizo, who led the USHL in goals scored by a defenseman in 2017-18, joins his brother, forward Anthony Del Gaizo, as the second member of the Minutemen's Class of 2022.

"Marc has proven himself to be the type of defenseman that I love to coach," said Carvel. "He has great hockey sense, mobility, is offensive-minded and has the ability to compete. He led the USHL in goals by a defenseman and, like his brother, will bring grit and an edge to UMass hockey. There is a good chance Marc will be drafted in the NHL Entry Draft this June. He will be a reliable two-way player who will add to our defense, while playing with determination and a physical presence."

Over his USHL career, Del Gaizo appeared in 119 regular season games and seven postseason contests for the Muskegon Lumberjacks, totaling 66 points on 18 goals and 48 assists with a +6 rating.

He saw action in 59 games during the 2017-18 regular season and paced all USHL defensemen with 12 goals, while ranking third in points (38) among defensemen. He was named USHL Defenseman of the Week on March 6 after logging five points in a three-game weekend.

After playing two games for Muskegon in 2015-16 while with the New Jersey Rockets, Del Gaizo joined the Lumberjacks in 2016-17 and registered 23 points (3g, 20a) over 58 games en route to USHL All-Rookie Second Team honors. In NHL Central Scouting's Final rankings for the 2018 NHL Draft which were released on April 15, Del Gaizo was ranked No. 187 among North American Skaters.
