Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford unveils agreements with nine institutions

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford announced the addition of future football series featuring familiar foes and newcomers to the program's upcoming schedules on Monday. The series updates and new signings includes games against Akron, Albany, Army, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Liberty, Maine, Southern Illinois and Temple.

"We are pleased to be able to secure games and rewarding scheduling relationships with a number of quality FBS and FCS opponents in future years," Bamford said. "A healthy mix of games versus regional and national opponents is an important piece of our plan to create a sustainable future for UMass Football as an FBS Independent."

Massachusetts and Akron will square off for a home-and-home series beginning in 2019. The Zips will travel to McGuirk Alumni Stadium on Sept. 28, 2019 before the Minutemen head to Akron, Ohio, for an Oct. 3, 2020 game.

Albany will visit the Minutemen at McGuirk Alumni Stadium on Sept. 19, 2020.

Bamford coordinated an extension of the current UMass-Army series with the addition of six games to the docket, including three at each home facility. Massachusetts takes to the road for games at Michie Stadium on Oct. 28, 2023, Nov. 22, 2025 and Nov. 20, 2027. The Black Knights visit Amherst on Sept. 7, 2024, Nov. 21, 2026 and Nov. 18, 2028. UMass and Army are also slated to square off once per season from 2018-21.

Massachusetts and Coastal Carolina will also expand upon an on-going series between the teams with additional meetings in Amherst on Sept. 21, 2019 and at the Chanticleers on Sept. 25, 2021.

UMass reunites with former Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan for a two-game series spread across the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The Eagles visit McGuirk Alumni Stadium for a Sept. 10, 2022 tilt before the Minutemen travel to Ypsilanti, Michigan, for a Sept. 16, 2023 contest.

Massachusetts and Liberty agreed upon a four-game series covering the 2022-25 campaigns, with a pair of contests at each home stadium. Liberty treks to Amherst on Oct. 29, 2022 and Nov. 16, 2024 while Massachusetts hits the road to Lynchburg, Virginia, for games on Nov. 11, 2023 and Nov. 1, 2025. The Minutemen and Flames are now set to square off once each season over the next eight years (2018-25).

The Minutemen and Black Bears adjusted their current series with the movement of one contest. The upcoming Nov. 13, 2021 game between Massachusetts and Maine replaces one previously slated for the 2019 season.

Massachusetts will play host to another former FCS opponent, Southern Illinois, when the Salukis head to McGuirk Alumni Stadium on Sept. 7, 2019. The teams met once previously during the 2007 NCAA Division I FCS Quarterfinals.

Bamford also continued the series against Temple with the addition of two future games. Massachusetts will host Temple on Oct. 10, 2020 before the Minutemen trek to the Owls for a Sept. 24, 2022 game.

The latest additions to the University of Massachusetts football schedule follow up a recently unveiled four-game slate with New Mexico State, which brings the Aggies to Amherst on Nov. 7, 2020 and Oct. 8, 2022 and sends the Minutemen to Las Cruces, New Mexico, on Nov. 27, 2021 and Sept. 30, 2023.
