Lisauskas, Paparo and Rinkus will serve as player-leaders for Minutemen
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse head coach Greg Cannella announced the three team captains for the 2018 season on Friday, including seniors Jake Lisauskas and Shane Rinkus and junior Isaac Paparo. The tri-captain trio will serve as player-leaders for the team throughout the spring campaign, Cannella's 24th at the helm of the program.
"I'm proud to say Shane (Rinkus), Jake (Lisauskas) and Isaac (Paparo) have demonstrated solid leadership over their time here at UMass," Cannella said. "They will continue to lead the 'UMass Way' and encourage the other seniors, juniors and sophomores to join them in guiding this team."
Lisauskas is one of the most experience midfielders on the team over the prior three years, with 17 starts in 35 games played with the Minutemen. He owns 23 career points via 13 goals and 10 assists during time spent on the first and second midfield lines, while the Derry, New Hampshire, native and graduate of Pinkerton Academy also enters his senior year with nine career groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers.

He holds career totals of 68 groundballs, 16 caused turnovers and three points - all earned on goals. Rinkus reset his single-season career bests as a junior in 2017 when the Thayer Academy product provided 40 groundballs and 12 caused turnovers, along with two goals scored. He topped all long-stick midfielders on the team in groundballs and caused turnovers, and ranked third among all Minutemen in groundballs and tied for third in caused turnovers.
Paparo, a two-time selection to the All-CAA Team, split his two completed seasons donning the Maroon and White between long-stick midfield and close defense. He brings two-year totals of 73 groundballs and 39 caused turnovers into his junior season, accumulated in the span of 28 career games played. Paparo reset the program record for caused turnovers in a season with 33 during the 2017 campaign, while he also led the CAA among non-faceoff specialists with his 3.1 groundballs per game (46 total). Paparo is the fourth-ever junior captain during Cannella's tenure as program leader, joining Buddy Hoffman in 1995, Chris Campolettano in 2000 and Ryan Izzo in 2014.
