Men's Track And Field Adds Murray To Coaching Staff

The Massachusetts native was an NCAA participant in track and cross country during his collegiate career at Georgetown.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's track and field has added John Murray to its coaching staff, director of men's track and field and cross country David Jackson announced on Wednesday. Murray will serve as an assistant coach, mentoring the Minutemen's distance runners.
 
"A Georgetown graduate and NCAA competitor in cross country and track, Coach Murray brings great enthusiasm and running knowledge to our program," said Jackson. "His ability to work with our young men will be a key part of their success. I am really excited that Coach Murray is able to step in temporarily and assist our distance guys for the 2018 indoor and outdoor seasons."
 
Murray ran cross country and track and field at Georgetown from 2011 to 2016 and competed in three NCAA Cross Country Championships with the Hoyas. During his Georgetown career, he qualified for two NCAA East Preliminary Championships in the 5,000m and also scored in that event and the 3,000m at the Big East Championships.
 
A USTFCCCA Division I Track & Field All Academic honoree as a senior, Murray graduated from Georgetown with a Bachelor of Arts in government in 2016.
 
Murray has served as head coach for the Central Mass Cross-Country-Clinic and Nomadic Run Crew. He also worked as an assistant coach with Precision Endurance Coaching and the Rocky Mountain Cross-Country Camp in Estes Park, Colorado.
 
A native of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Murray was a 2010 state champion in cross country and an indoor two-mile state champion at Shrewsbury High School. He was a two-time Footlocker Cross Country National Championship qualifier, as well.
