Longtime UMass football athletic trainer recognized for commitment to campus, community and the sports medicine profession

HOUSTON – University of Massachusetts associate head athletic trainer Jennifer Brodeur was honored with the College and University Athletic Trainers Committee's New Horizon Award at the National Athletic Trainers Association Symposium in Houston, Texas, on June 28.

The New Horizon Award recognizes individual athletic trainers who show the attributions of future leaders in the field. Recipients are actively involved in their communities, their campuses, athletic training associations and activities promoting the profession.

Brodeur enters her 11th year at the University of Massachusetts in 2017-18, and her 10th working with the UMass football program. During the 2016 season, she was one of only eight female athletic trainers overseeing sports medicine for NCAA Division I FBS programs. Brodeur has also assisted the men's lacrosse, and swimming & diving teams during her decade of service to the university.

In addition to her New Horizon Award, Brodeur has been elected to the Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine as a Division I At-Large (Independent) Representative. Her responsibilities on the committee include addressing the varying needs of athletic trainers working at all levels of competition.

Brodeur was previously lauded for her work with the NATA's Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year Award in 2013, which is given out annually to one individual by the College and University Athletic Trainers Committee. She was also recognized for her contributions to the field in 2009 with the Athletic Trainer Service Award at the NATA National Convention in recognition of contributions to the athletic training profession and the association.
