Recent graduate collects third academic honor of 2017 season, first scholar all-America award
AMHERST, Mass. – Recent University of Massachusetts graduate Dan Muller earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-America on Tuesday evening, as announced by the organization. It marked Muller's first career scholar all-America honor and went as his third academic honor of 2017, including NEILA Senior Scholar-Athlete and CAA All-Academic Team.
Muller led the team in points (37), tied Grant Consoletti for the top mark in assists (14) and had the second-most goals on the squad (23) in 2017. The CAA First Team All-Conference midfielder and CAA All-Championship Team selection recorded three or more points in eight games and also had multiple goals scored in eight contests.
The USILA Scholar All-America awards recognize men's lacrosse student-athletes for exemplary work in the classroom, on the field and in the community. In addition to his three academic awards earned in 2017, Muller was previously a CAA Academic Achievement Award winner in 2014 and the UMass Male Spring Scholar-Athlete as a redshirt junior in 2016.
Muller is the 11th all-time Minuteman chosen for USILA Scholar All-America and first since Connor Mooney in 2014. All 11 honorees earned USILA Scholar All-America during head coach Greg Cannella's tenure as the program leader. He is one of six chosen for the 2017 USILA Scholar All-America award, including Fairfield's Andrew Eidenshink and Jake Knostman and Towson's Jack Adams, Ryan Drenner and Tyler Konen.
