Laurent Named New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award Winner

Redshirt senior kicker led UMass to 30-27 double-overtime win with game-tying and winning field goals
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - University of Massachusetts football kicker Logan Laurent earned a New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award on Wed., Nov. 1 following Laurent's double-overtime heroics against Appalachian State. Laurent sealed the 30-27 victory in double-overtime when he drove a 36-yard field goal through the North endzone upright at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

Laurent's overtime field goal came only minutes after he tied the game on a 45-yard conversion through the same upright with five seconds to go in the fourth quarter. The Temecula, California, native ended the day 3-of-3 kicking as he also hit 47-yard attempt in the first quarter, while he also went 3-of-3 on extra point attempts.

Additionally, Laurent served as the team's punter and kickoff specialist, his first career game fielding kickoff responsibilities. He boomed eight punts for 357 yards (44.6 per attempt), with a career-long 63-yard boot among three that traveled 50 or more yards. He also sailed three of his five kickoffs for touchbacks.

Laurent is the second Minuteman with a NFF Gold Helmet Award selection in 2017 as Bryton Barr won the weekly award on Sept. 28.
