Redshirt senior kicker recognized for clutch play in double-overtime win

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - University of Massachusetts redshirt senior kicker Logan Laurent earned recognition from the Palm beach County Sports Commission as a member of the Lou Groza Place-Kicker Award "Stars of the Week" on Monday. Laurent, one of three tabbed to the weekly honor roll, earned his spot via his double-overtime heroics against Appalachian State. Laurent sealed the 30-27 victory in double-overtime when he drove a 36-yard field goal through the North endzone upright at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

Laurent's overtime field goal came only minutes after he tied the game on a 45-yard conversion through the same upright with five seconds to go in the fourth quarter. The Temecula, California, native ended the day 3-of-3 kicking as he hit 47-yard attempt in the first quarter, while he also went 3-of-3 on extra point attempts.

Additionally, Laurent served as the team's punter and kickoff specialist, his first career game fielding kickoff responsibilities. He boomed eight punts for 357 yards (44.6 per attempt), with a career-long 63-yard boot among three that traveled 50 or more yards. He also sailed three of his five kickoffs for touchbacks.

The season continues for Massachusetts football at Mississippi State on Sat., Nov. 4 with a Noon (ET) kickoff. Follow the team on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook at @UMassFootball.
