MASSACHUSETTS HIGHLIGHTS
- Andrew Ford threw three touchdown passes and finished 23-of-44 with 316 yards at quarterback. It was Ford's second consecutive game with 300 or more yards while he has thrown multiple touchdowns in all seven of his startsĀ
- Jalen Williams averaged 27 yards per reception on four catches with 108 receiving yards and one touchdown. His longest grab went for 48 yards while he scored on a 31-yard grab in the third quarter that cut the deficit to 28-24. It was Williams' first career game with 100+ yards receiving.Ā
- Adam Breneman led both sides with six receptions, including one for a touchdown. It marked his fourth consecutive game with at least 75 yards receiving and third straight performance that included at least one touchdown
- Sadiq Palmer scored on a four-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, his first collegiate rushing touchdown. It was only his second career carry as a Minuteman
- Isaiah Rodgers picked off Troy quarterback Brandon Silvers' first pass attempt of the day and returned it 36 yards to the Troy 11 yard line. Two plays later, Ford hit Breneman for the second UMass touchdown of the game
- Colbert Calhoun recorded his second sack of the season when he dropped Silvers for a seven-yard loss. After he did not drop the QB in the backfield in any of the opening six games of the season, Calhoun now has 2.0 sacks for 17 yards lost over the last four games played
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Massachusetts raced out to a 14-0 lead in the opening two minutes, 21 seconds with back-to-back Andrew Ford touchdown passes, one each to Dan Jonah and Adam Breneman.
- Ford hit Jonah for a six-yard scoring strike only 84 seconds into play at Veterans Memorial Stadium after Troy won the toss and elected to defer possession to the second half, which gave the Minutemen the ball to start the game.
- Troy quarterback Brandon Silvers was intercepted on his first pass attempt of the night as Isaiah Rodgers picked off his throw and returned it 36 yards to the Troy 11 yard line. Breneman's endzone touchdown grab followed two plays later.
- Troy answered with the next three scoring drives. Silvers made up for his miscue with a five yard completion to Emanuel Thompson before Jordan Chunn and Silvers powered in for back-to-back rushing scores.
- Logan Laurent cut into the 21-14 deficit at the 10:38 mark of the second quarter when he converted on a 28-yard field goal; however, the Trojans netted their fourth TD drive of the half with only 56 seconds to go for a 28-17 lead at the break. John Johnson hauled in a seven yard grab for the touchdown.Ā
- UMass answered back during its opening drive of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 28-24 with 10:13 to go. The Minutemen marched 70 yards over seven plays, capped by Williams' 31-yard TD reception.
- Troy posted the next 24 points and put the game out of reach as the Trojans turned a four-point advantage into a 52-24 margin with 10 minutes to play.
- Sadiq Palmer added the final UMass points of the contest with his first rushing touchdown, a four-yard scamper that closed out a 16-play, 75-yard series.
