Logan Laurent Named Ray Guy Candidate

AMHERST, Mass. – Announced by the Augusta Sports Council on Monday, UMass football's Logan Laurent is a candidate for the 2016 Ray Guy Award, given to the nation's top collegiate punter at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards annually in December.
Laurent, a redshirt junior from Temecula, California, has 50 punts for 2,122 yards and an average of 42.4 yards per punt through nine games in 2016. He's dropped 14 punts inside the 20-yard line with 12 kicks of 50+ yards and a long of 58 yards. He set the UMass record for punt yards in a single game (547) over 12 attempts vs. Boston College.
The list of 66 nominees will be narrowed down to 10 semifinalists on Fri., Nov. 11. Following the announcement, a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Sports Information Directors, coaches, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the three finalists who will be identified on Tues., Nov. 22. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner. The 2016 Ray Guy Award winner will be announced live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thurs., Dec. 8.
