AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass hockey team tallied its first win of the season against Bentley, 5-3 on Friday, October 14, improving to a 1-0-1 record. Michael Pereira had a standout game with three goals and one assist. Danny Hobbs was another big factor in this win with one goal and two assists.

Bentley got on the board first with a goal from Aaron Stonacek at the 2:02 mark in the first period. The Minutemen quickly answered with a goal from Hobbs. Bentley would score one more time on a power play late in the first period, giving them a 2-1 lead.

Pereira scored the only goal in the second period, tying the game 2-2 going into the third period.

Branden Gracel scored early in the third off of some nice puck movement around the net by Troy Power and Michael Marcou. Pereira followed up less than one minute later with a goal off a breakaway run from Hobbs.

After two penalties on UMass, including a game misconduct on Adam Phillips, the Falcons had a huge upper-hand but could only get one goal on the power play. Pereira would score one last time with ten seconds left to seal the deal and the Minutemen ended the night with a 5-3 victory.

The Minutemen will head to Rhode Island to face Providence College tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
