Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Davidson, 2-0

Second half goals from Emma Pedolzky and Ashley Lamond aided the Minutewomen to their eighth shutout of the season.
AMHERST, Mass. – Seniors Emma Pedolzky and Ashley Lamond scored second half goals to help lift the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over Davidson in its final regular season home match at Rudd Field on Thursday afternoon.
Additionally, redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza picked up her eighth shutout of the year.
The Minutewomen improve to 11-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the Atlantic 10, while the Wildcats moved to 7-7-3 on the year, including 3-5-1 in the league.
After a scoreless first half, senior defender Juliana Ryan kept the ball in and worked around Davidson's defender to pass the ball into the box. Midfielder Pedolzky kicked the ball off the bounce and sent it into the bottom corner of the net to put Massachusetts on top, 1-0 in the 53rd minute. It marked Pedolzky's third goal of the season.
Forward Lamond extended the Minutewomen's lead to 2-0 at the 61:26 mark. Lamond dribbled the ball into the18-yard box and took a shot at the edge of the six-yard box that went through the legs of Davidson's goalkeeper into the back of the goal. UMass held off Davidson as the Wildcats had several shots on goal in the final minutes to earn the 2-0 victory.
Massachusetts outshot Davidson, 12-8, including 8-4 with shots on goal. UMass tallied seven shots in the opening 45 minutes, while both teams totaled five shots apiece in the second half. The Minutewomen also had the advantage in corners, 3-1.
Lamond led the team in shots with three, followed by graduate student forward Karina Groff, Pedolzky and senior midfielder Bella Mendoza with two each. Lamond, Pedolzky and Recinos had two shots on target apiece.
Redshirt senior Bella Mendoza collected her eighth shutout of the season with four saves through the full 90 minutes. Emily Smith of Davidson played for 90 minutes in net, stopping six shots and allowing two goals.
Massachusetts concludes the regular season on the road in Richmond, Virginia, taking on VCU on Sunday, October 27, at 1:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
