UMass Tennis Downs St. John’s For Comeback Win

Massachusetts drops doubles point, rallies with four singles victories
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis rallied back for a 4-3 victory over St. John's at the Bay Road Tennis Club on Sunday afternoon. The Minutewomen put forth the comeback effort with victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles after the team dropped the doubles point.
Massachusetts won at No. 1 doubles, but St. John's took the team point following three closely contested matches with its victories at No. 2 and No. 3.
Olaya Inclan Solis and Irina Preotescu downed Ruth Crawford and Janja Kovacevic, 6-4, before Ana Yrazusta and Laura Moreno gave the Maroon and White their doubles match win at No. 1 with a 7-5 decision over Jaide Collins and Zofia Stanisz. The team point came down to No. 3 doubles, where Kajsa Stegrell and Nina Marjanovic bested Ashley Avery and Anna Napadiy via tie-breaker 7-6 (7-0).
Yrazusta put Massachusetts on the scoreboard with her 6-3, 6-1 win over Stanisz at No. 2 singles. After Stegrell downed Moreno 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles, Kovacevic evened the team score at two-all with her 6-2, 7-6 triumph over Collins.
Crawford fought through a three-set battle with Inclan Solis at No. 1 singles and worked her way to a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over St. John's top competitor.
Napadiy secured the Minutewomen their team win with her clutch performance at No. 5 singles, during which she outworked Marjanovic en route to the 6-4, 6-2 win. Bocchi wrapped up the day with a 6-2, 0-6, 4-6 setback against Preotescu at No. 6 singles.
