Amherst, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts cross country teams will host Colgate, Maine, and Vermont this Saturday, Sept. 20 at the UMass Cross Country Course starting at 11:00 a.m. The Minutemen will also run against UConn. On Monday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association ranked the men's team 13th in the Northeast region.

The day begins with an alumni 5K run, to take place at 10:15AM. At 11:00AM, the women's varsity will take on Maine, Vermont, and Colgate. Following, at 11:30AM, the men will race against Colgate, UConn, Maine, and Vermont. At the conclusion of the races, alumni, parents, and athletes are invited to a luncheon that will take place at Curry Hicks Cage. A guided tour of the campus departing and ending at the Cage will also be provided.

UMass looks to build from last weekend's season opener at the Dartmouth Invitational, where the men finished third and the women finished seventh. Traditionally, both the men and women have performed very well on their own turf. Last year, then-freshman Jeff Hill placed second overall with a time of 25:01--his best of the season. On the women's side, Shiyi Zan also posted her best time of the season in the 5K (18:18), placing fourth overall and second on the team.

The start of the race is behind the School of Education (Furcolo Hall). Parents, alumni, and fans can park in lot 44. There will be "XC" signs posted throughout campus directing folks to the School of Education, and signs from the parking lot to the starting line- which is 400 yards from the parking lot into the woods.
