Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Introduces The 2012-13 Freshman ClassHead Coach Julie LaFreniere and her Assistant Coaches David Jackson and Darcy Wilson hope to continue to bring in young talent for the 2012-13 season.

Rebecca Stoyle, a strong triple jumper out of Pembroke, Massachusetts came in and set the fourth best mark in UMass history for the indoor triple jump in the spotlight of her first A-10 Championships with a mark of 38-4.75 and placing fifth in the A-10. She also set the third best record in UMass history for the outdoor triple jump in the A-10 Championships last season with a career best 39-9.25, a mark good enough for third place in the A-10.
Katie Powers (Holbrook, Mass.) and Courtney Neves (New Bedford, Mass.) were both strong runners individually but thrived in the 4x800 meter relay. The two bloomed in the Indoor New England Championships where they set the second fastest time in UMass history with a time of 9:07.16 alongside Sarah Bitterman and Deanna Julian. It was the Outdoor New England Championships where they made their biggest bang and took home a New England Championship as well as the second best time in UMass history for the 4x800 meter relay when Neves, Powers, Meghan Leahy and Claire Pettit crossed the finish line at 9:00.01.
Meghan Landry (Marshfield, Mass.) also made her way into UMass history when she anchored the 4x400 meter relay at the Indoor New England Championships when she, alongside Sarah Bitterman, Meghan Leahy, and Michelle Jenssen, finished with a fifth best time in UMass history of 3:52.74.
This year the coaches have brought in 13 freshmen with lengthy resumes of their own to come in and perform at the Division-I level.
Kelsey Crawford is a freshman out of Houston, Texas and finished second in the 100 and 200 meter run as well as the shot put at the Texas TAPPS 5A State Championship. Crawford assisted in Houston Christian High School's three team state championships from 2009-2011. She also holds the school records in the shot put (40-8.5), 100 meter dash (12.54) and the 100 meter hurdles (16.69)
Recruited out of Hingham, Massachusetts, Meghan Patrolia was a Division-III Champion and a state champion in the 100 meter hurdles as well as a top eight finisher in the long and triple jumps as well as the 100 meter hurdles in the Massachusetts All-State meet. Played a part in three league championships and two Division-III Indoor Championships. Patrolia also holds four records at Hingham High School in the 55 and 100 meter hurdles and the triple and long jump.
Corrine Bonder (Sutton, Mass.) specialized in the two mile run at Sutton Memorial. Bonder placed top five in the two mile at the MIAA Central Division Outdoor Championship and the Dual Valley Conference Championship. Assisted her team to four league championships from 2009-to-2012 and two district championships in 2011 and 2012. The freshman also holds the school record in the indoor two mile with a time of 11:59.
Carly Zinner is a runner out of Sussex, New Jersey and was a strong competitor in the 400 and 800 meter run as well as the 4x400, 4x800 meter and distance medley relay. Zinner holds three records at High Point Regional High School where she helped her team to two sectional championships. Zinner holds school records in the 800 meter run and the 4x400 meter relay, 4x800 meter relay and the distance medley relay. She also placed second in the 400 meter run and was a top five finisher in the 800 meter run at the New Jersey Sectional Championships.
Alexa Fearing (Marlborough, Mass.) is another freshman for the Minutewomen from Massachusetts. Fearing placed second in the shot put at the MIAA Central Division Outdoor Championships and assisted in her teams three league championships at Marlborough High School. Fearing also holds the school record in the shot put with a distance of 36-11.75.
Kathrine Osborne was a strong competitor in a multitude of events for Cicero North Syracuse High School. The New York native was a New York Section 3 State Qualifier and Pentathlon Champion as well as a Section 3 Class AA Champion in the high jump and the 55 meter hurdles. She also assisted in four league championships and two sectional championships.
Alexandra Rewick is another freshman from New Jersey and went to Morris Hills High School where she contributed to two sectional championships. Rewick holds the school record in the pole vault at 10 feet and placed sixth in the 100 meter hurdles at the NJSIAA Secional Championship.
Tiffany Williams will bring a lot of speed to the Minutewomen and is recruited out of Peoria, Arizona where she attended Sandra Day O'Connor High School. Williams was a top three finisher in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash at the Arizona State Championships and was a North West Region Champion in the 400 meter run and long jump.
Meredith Willis (Simsbury, Conn.) was a top eight finisher in the 100 meter hurdles at the Connecticut State Championship. The freshman out of Simsbury High School assisted her team to four state championships and holds the record for her high school in the long jump with a mark of 17-6.5.
Juliana Sheehan, out of Milford, Massachusetts, was a top eight finisher in the 100 meter hurdles and the triple jump at the MIAA Central Division Outdoor Championships, she also holds the school record in the high jump (5-2) and the triple jump (36-8).
UMass does have one transfer this year, Aurora Rougeau is a transfer out of Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She played field hockey at Mt. Holyoke but will compete in track and field as a sophomore for the Minutewomen. At Mohawk Trail Regional she was a top five finisher in the state tournament in the discuss and heptathlon.
Out of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Emily Louis was a Merrimack Valley Conference Champion in the javelin at Chelmsford High School.
Another freshman competing in the javelin is Emma Robinson (Jaffrey, N.H.). Robinson was a top five finisher in the javelin at the New Hampshire Meet of Champions.
Sarah Bierly is recruited out of Portland Connecticut and was a top eight finisher in the pole vault at Connecticut States and second in the Class C Championship.
