AMHERST, N.Y. - The 2011 cross country campaign came to a close on Saturday morning for the Minutewomen. UMass competed at the highly competitive NCAA Regional Championships in Amherst, N.Y. where Julie LaFreniere's squad placed 21st in a field of 36 teams by amassing 639 points. Syracuse University took home first place with 116 points.

For the sixth time this season, Karen Roa paced UMass with a time of 22:14.5. The Jamaica, N.Y. native led the Minutewomen in every meet she participated in this fall, and is the first Minutewoman to do so since current UMass harrier Courtney Baldwin did it in 2009. Trailing Roa was the standout freshman, Rachel Hilliard. The Hookstown, Pa. native crossed the line at 23:31.3, while taking 133rd overall.

Next up for the Minutewomen were co-captain Danielle McNiff and junior Courtney Baldwin. The duo placed only seven spots apart in 141st and 148th respectively with times of 23:36.7 and 23:44.8.

Freshman Katie Powers was the final UMass scorer clocking in at 23:50.1, good enough for 155th.

The UMass indoor track and field season commences on Jan. 14 at the Sparks Sorlein Invitational.
