UMass Women's Cross County Team Finishes Seventh At A-10's

Charlotte, N.C. - The UMass women's cross country team finished seventh of 14 teams at the Atlantic 10 Championships this weekend in Charlotte, N.C. The Minutewomen were led by redshirt sophomore Shiyi Zan (Ottawa, Ontario) who finished eighth overall with a time o 18:18.3. Placing second for the Mintewomen was freshman Karen Roa (Jamaica, N.Y.) with a time of 18:43.7 to finish 15th overall. Both Zan and Roa earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors for their respective finishes.
Zan finished almost a full minute ahead of her time last season at A-10's (19:16). Roa has continued to be a consistent second place finisher for the Minutewomen, as this is the fourth time she has finished behind Zan this season. Ranking third for the Minutewomen, 48th overall, was freshman Claire Pettit (Warwick, N.Y.) with a time of 19:18.3.
Senior leader Taryn Trapp (Nampa, Idaho) placed 58th overall with a time of 19:31.1. Rounding out the scoring for the Minutewomen were sophomore Gina Perno (Plainview, N.Y.), senior Beth Harlow (Melrose, Mass.), and sophomore Liz Fisk (Seekonk, Mass.). Perno finished with a time of 19:57.6, placing 79th overall. Harlow and Fisk finished within 0.1 seconds of each other to place 85th and 86th respectively.
Last year, the Minutewomen ranked sixth overall at A-10's. Richmond won the title this season with a total of 48 points. The Minutewomen will take next weekend off from competition in preparation for the NCAA Regional Qualifier at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Nov. 15.
