Roa, In Fifth, Leads WXC At A-10's

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - With a fifth place finish in a field of 128 harriers, Karen Roa (Jamaica, N.Y.) stood out for UMass at the A-10 Championships on Saturday. The Minutewomen took home tenth place in a field of 14 conference squads by tallying 231 points. Roa was also named to the A-10 All-Conference team for her performance. La Salle won the A-10 Title on both the men's and women's sides.

By crossing the line at 17:37.7, Roa led the Minutewomen for a fifth time this season. The closest UMass harrier to the Jamiaca, N.Y. native was freshman Rachel Hilliard (Hookstown, Pa.) in 52nd overall with a time of 18:58.9. The top duo scored 55 points combined for UMass.

Junior Courtney Baldwin (Lowell, Mass.) was in the mix for coach Julie LaFreniere once again, placing third on the squad and 55th overall by registering a time of 19:01.0. Behind Baldwin was Sarah Barrett (Topsfield, Mass.) in 61st, by crossing the line at 19:03.4.

Rounding out the UMass scorers was freshman Katie Powers in 74th. The Holbrook, Mass native logged a mark of 19:13.8. Also competing for the Minutewomen were Colleen Wetherbee, Danielle McNiff, Mary Cole, Hannah White, and Caprice Cappucci.

Coach LaFreniere's team hits the ground running again at the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 12.
