BOSTON, Mass. - The UMass Cross Country teams took on a strong field at the 28th New England Championships. Both teams showed steady improvement, as the men's squad finished 14th out of 46 teams and the women's team was 26th out of 42 teams.

The men's team was paced by senior Colin Baughman (Sherrill, N.Y.). Baughman finished in 78th place with a clocking of 25:49. He was followed by junior John Jacobson (Taunton, Mass.), who placed 83rd with a time of 25:53 and senior Ed Breen (Stoneham, Mass.). Breen finished in 105th place with a time of 26:03.

The women's team was led by junior Tricia Silva's (Amesbury, Mass.) 88th place finish. Silva finished in 19:11. She was followed by senior Julie McGee (Needham, Mass.), who finished in 138th place with a clocking of 19:42 and junior Katie Knowles' (Ludlow, Mass.) 156th place finish in 19:56.

Both teams will be in action next on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Albany Invitational in Albany, N.Y. Action gets underway at noon.
