Minutewomen Finish Eleventh At New England Championship

BOSTON, Mass. - On Saturday afternoon the Minutewomen placed 11th overall as a team with 349 points in what was an encouraging New England Championship for UMass in Boston Mass. The championship meet included 43 teams and 283 total runners. Junior harrier Rachel Hilliard has now led the Minutewomen in each meet this season with her 26th place finish overall and each of the team's top seven finishers with the exception of Sarah Barrett improved their times from the last time they ran in Franklin Park.
Hilliard clocked in at 18-minutes, 15-seconds to kick things off which is 19-seconds better than her time two weeks ago at the Coast-To-Coast Battle in Beantown. She was once again followed by Christine Davis in 38th place with a time of 18-minutes, 28-seconds, which is also 19-seconds better than her previous time at Franklin Park.
Alexandra Purdue-Smithe placed 76th overall, completing the course 15-seconds faster this time around while clocking in at 18-minutes, 53-seconds. Katie Powers showed the largest improvement with her time being 33-seconds faster with a time of 19-minutes, 3-seconds for a 93rd place finish. Carly Zinner followed the two juniors in 116th place at 19-minutes, 16-seconds, a finish 12-seconds faster than her previous race in Boston.
Placing sixth and seventh for UMass was Sarah Barrett and Molly McMahon. Barrett crossed the finish line at 19-minutes, 29-seconds while McMahon finished at the 19-minute, 40-second mark. The two finished 142nd and 163rd respectively.
The next time out for UMass will be in two weeks at the CCSU Mini-Meet. The race is set for 4:00 p.m. on October 25 in New Britain, Conn. It will be the final meet before the team heads to Richmond, Va. for the Atlantic 10 Championship.
