Cross Country Runs At New England Championship

BOSTON, Mass. - Both University of Massachusetts cross country teams competed in the NEIAAA New England Championship held at Franklin Park this weekend. The men's team finished 19th in the 47-team field while the women placed 24th out of 41 squads.

On the men's side, sophomore Ryan Corbett (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led the way with a time of 25:53, good for 57th place. Junior Andrew McCarron (Lunenburg, Mass.) was 108th with a time of 26:22, while freshman Michael Dulong (Verona, N.J.) finished 118th in a time of 26:28. Also running for the Minutemen were senior David Hantman (Cambridge, Mass.),, sophomore Sean Corbett (Highland, N.Y.), senior Richard Harris (East Windsor, N.J.) and junior Joshua Williams (Athol, Mass.). They finished 136th (26:38), 157th (26:50), 202nd (27:21) and 208th (27:26), respectively.

For the Minutewomen, senior Kate Markopoulos (Porter Corner, N.Y.) led the way with a 96th-place finish in 19:20. Right behind her was junior Alexis Anzelone (Westfield, N.J.), She came in 100th place with a time of 19:22. Also competing for the Minutewomen this weekend were freshman Cuisle Kierans (Newbury, Mass.), senior Tricia Silva (Haverhill, Mass.), junior Amanda Dahlberg (Gardner, Mass.), junior Loren Donohue (Millbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore Allie Lupico (Island Heights, N.J.). They placed 139th (19:44), 160th (19:56), 166th (19:58) 227th (20:47) and 259th (21:33), respectively.

Both Massachusetts cross country teams will next compete in the Albany Invitational in Albany, N.Y., Oct. 18 at 12:00 p.m.
