Hilliard Comes Out On Top For UMass At New England Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. - UMass rested most of their top runners this week with the final stretch of the season approaching. The Minutewomen combined for a 26th finish out of 37 of the top teams in New England. Boston College placed first amongst the teams and claimed two of the top five spots in the race.
Rachel Hilliard headlined UMass' trip to the New England Championships in Westfield, Mass. Sunday afternoon. The sophomore took 80th overall with a time of 18:42.05 placing in the top third of the 251 runners in the 5k race. Hilliard has placed in the top two in all four meets this season. This is also her second time placing first for the Minutewomen on the year.
Freshman Molly McMahon finished second for UMass crossing the finish line at 19:23.61 for her first top three performance of the year. Rounding off the top three for the Minutewomen was senior Caprice Cappucci who finished with a time of 19:24.39. Following Cappucci at 19:28.47 out of Sharon, Mass. was junior Alexandra Purdue-Smithe. Three sophomores followed the junior with Hannah White coming in fifth for the Minutewomen. White had a time of 19:35.12 and not far behind was Robyn Argo at 19:37.67. Catherine Ayers crossed the finish line at 19:43.12 and finished seventh for UMass.
