Cross Country Places Second at Syracuse Big Orange Invitational
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts men's and women's cross country teams both ran to second place finishes at the Syracuse Big Orange Invitational held in Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The women's race was won by Binghamton University. The top UMass finisher was junior Alexis Anzelone (Westfield, N.J.) whose time of 20:07.51 was good enough for a 4th-place finish. Rounding out the top three Minutewomen were 10th-place finisher senior Tricia Silva (Newbury, Mass.) with a clocking of 20:37.37, and senior Kate Markopoulos (Porter Corners, N.Y.), whose time of 20:40.42 placed her 11th. The Minutewomen had five finishers in the top 20.
The men's race was won by Syracuse University. The top three UMass finishers were junior Andrew McCarron (Lunenberg, Mass.) who placed sixth with a time of 28:25.72, sophomore Ryan Corbett (East Longmeadow, Mass.) who posted a time of 28:40.82 for a ninth-place finish, and sophomore Sean Corbett (Highland, N.Y.) whose time of 28:41.23 was good for a tenth-place finish. The Minutemen had six finishers in the top 25.
UMass will be in action next on Friday, Oct. 10, at the New England Championship, in Boston, Mass. The race will begin at 12:00 p.m.
