Cross Country Teams Run at Meet of Champions

BRONX, N.Y.? The UMass Cross Country teams headed south on Saturday to run at the 2002 Brother Paddy Doyle Meet of Champions. The women's team finished 20th out of 25 teams and the men's team placed 21st out of 26 teams.

The women's team was led by Alexis Anzelone (Westfield, N.J.), who finished the 5-K race in 112th place with a time of 23:53. She was followed by Julie McGee (Needham, Mass.) in a time of 24:30, good for 146th place. Katie Knowles (Ludlow, Mass.) was 172nd with a clocking of 25:02.

The men's team was paced by Ed Breen (Stoneham, Mass) with a 110th place finish. Breen finished the course in 26:55. He was followed by Mike Ahearn (Paxton, Mass.), who finished in 27:20, good for 131st place, and Andy McCarron (Lunenburg, Mass.). McCarron finished in 152nd place with a time of 27:37.

Both teams will be in action next on Friday, Oct. 11, when they run at the New England Championships at Boston's Franklin Park.
