Hilliard Leads The Way In Second Straight Race

BOSTON, Mass. - Friday afternoon the Minutewomen competed in the Coast-To-Coast Battle in Boston where they faced top tier teams ranked nationally as well as in the region. UMass finished 11th overall with Providence, Oregon, Cornell, Boston College and Wisconsin grabbing the first five spots in the competition.
Rachel Hilliard once again led the way for UMass coming in 54th overall, clocking in at 18-minutes, 34-seconds. Not far behind was one freshman standout Christine Davis, finishing just four spots later at 58 in 18-minutes, 47-seconds. Alexandra Purdue-Smithe trailed in third at 19-minutes, 8-seconds completing the race in 74th place. Missing from the top four of the previous meet was Natalie Mako, who was given the weekend off to nurse an injury.
In fourth was the squads top sophomore harrier Carly Zinner. She placed 81st overall and finished with a time of 19-minutes, 28-seconds. Heather MacLean closely followed Zinner in 82nd place just milliseconds behind, also clocking in at 19:28.0. Sarah Barrett in 83rd place immediately followed the freshman at 19-minutes, 29-seconds. Katie Powers completed the top seven in 85th place, crossing the finish line at 19-minutes, 36-seconds.
Next week the Minutewomen's schedule doesn't get any easier at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. The race is set to start at 11:45 A.M.
