Women's Cross Country Places Seventh At Ted Owen Invitational

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts men's and women's cross country teams finished third and seventh, respectively, at the Ted Owen Invitational held in New Britain, Conn. on Saturday, Sept. 20.
The men's race was won by the Huskies of UConn. The top three UMass finishers were senior David Hantman (Cambridge, Mass.) who placed 11th with a time of 27:54.1, junior Rich Harris (East Windsor, N.J.) who posted a time of 27:59.6 for a 12th-place finish, and junior Andrew McCarron (Lunenberg, Mass.) whose time of 28:24.0 good for a 22nd-place finish. The Minutemen had seven finishers in the top 30.
The women's race was won by the University of New Hampshire, who went on to win the meet. The top UMass finisher was junior Alexis Anzelone (Westfield, N.J.) whose time of 18:52.9 was good enough for a 14th-place finish. Rounding out the top three Minutewomen were 34th-place finisher freshman Cuisle Kierans (Newbury, Mass.) with a time of 19:57.7, and senior Kate Markopoulos (Porter Corners, N.Y.) whose time of 20:01.8 placed her 38th. The Minutewomen had four finishers in the top 50.
UMass will be in action next on Saturday Sept. 27, at the Orange Cross Country Classic, in Syracuse, N.Y. The race will begin at 11:00 a.m.
