UMass Women's Cross Country Finishes Fourth In Minuteman Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. - Although UMass finished middle of the pack as a team on Saturday at Wysocki Fields, the freshman, Carly Zinner gives UMass something to be excited about on the course. The Minutewomen placed four-of-six on the day with 96 points total and were led by Carly Zinner, Rachel Hilliard, and Sarah Barrett.
Carly Zinner, a freshman from Sussex, N.J. ran a tough race and placed first for the team and 17th overall for a time of 19:09.47. Next to finish for the Minutewomen was Rachel Hilliard with a time of 19:10.23 placing 19th overall. Sarah Barrett made the teams top three with a time of 19:27.64. Making improvements from last week was junior Mary Cole and sophomore Katie Powers. Cole finished at 19:40.64 and fourth for UMass with Powers not far behind at 19:51.46.
Out of the top 15 spots in the women's 5K run on Saturday, Boston College claimed 13 of the spots including one, two, four and five. Boston College finished with 19 points; they were followed by Stonehill College with 78 and Amherst College with 87. The Minutewomen will venture to Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday September 29 for the Paul Short Invitational; their race begins at 11:45 a.m.
