The NCAA Northeast Regional Championships women's 6k is set for Friday at 12:00 p.m. in Madison, Conn.
The Minutewomen placed 12th overall but the future looks bright with four of their top five finishers being underclassmen.
From seniors to freshman and their strong nucleus of sophomores the UMass women's cross country team will need a complete team effort this week at the A-10 Championships.
Head Coach Julie LaFreniere hopes to see her squad perform well as they enter their final meet and final week of preparation before the A-10 Tournament.
As a sophomore in 2012: Competed in all seven meets of the season and finished fourth on the team in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, crossing the finish line at 22:40.6 (11/9) ... Finished third and 67th overall in the A-10 Championships, crossing the finish line at 19:25.3 (10/27) ... Placed second for UMass and 17th overall with a time of 19:12.10 in the Rothenberg Race (10/19) ... Posted her best time of the season in the New England Championships crossing the finish line at 18:42.05 and finishing first for the Minutewomen and 80th overall (10/7) ... Crossed the finish line at 22:52 in the Paul Short Invitational and finished second on the team (9/28) ... Finished the Minuteman Invitational in 19:10.23 and placed second for UMass and 19th overall (9/15) ... Finished first for the Minutewomen and second place overall with a time of 19:52.18 (9/8).
As a freshman in 2011: Competed in all seven meets as a freshman ... At the NCAA Regional Championships (11/12), placed second on the team and 133st overall in 23:31.3 ... Clocked in at 18:58.9 at the A-10 Championships (10/29), while placing second on the team and 52nd overall ... In 19:39.0, placed third on the team and 16th overall at the Rothenberg Race (10/14) ... Crossing the line at 19:33, registered a fourth place team finish while placing 99th overall at the New England Championships (10/8) ... Recorded a time of 23:19 at the Paul Short Invite (9/30) while placing second on the team and 208th overall ... With a mark of 19:05.34, recorded a second place team finish at the Minuteman Invite (9/17) ... In her first collegiate meet, placed third on the team and 29th overall with a time of 19:38.18 at the Bryant University Invitational (9/10).
Before UMass: A 2011 graduate of South Side High School ... Was a four year letter winner under coaches Jason Lytle and Mike Goth ... Holds school records in the 400 meters, 800 meters, 1600 meters, 3200 meters, 4x400 meter relay, and on the 5K cross country course ... Won State Cross Country Medals as a junior and senior ... Brought home a State Track Medal as a senior ... Named the 2011 Valedictorian at South Side.
