From seniors to freshman and their strong nucleus of sophomores the UMass women's cross country team will need a complete team effort this week at the A-10 Championships.
Julie LaFreniere and the women's cross country squad will open up the 2012 season from the comforts of their own home on Saturday, September 8.
Karen Roa led the Minutewomen for the sixth meet this season on Saturday.
This will be the seventh and final meet of the season for the Minutewomen.
As a senior in 2012: Did not compete.
As a junior in 2011: Competed in five meets ... Clocked in at 23:44.8 at the NCAA Regionals (11/12), placing fourth on the team and 148th overall ... At the A-10 Championships (10/29) crossed the line at 19:01.1, placing third on the team and 55th overall ... Led the Minutewomen at the Rothenberg Race (10/14) with a mark of 19:13.2, while finishing tenth overall ... Crossing the line at 19:18, placed third on the team and 80th overall at the New England Championships (10/8) ... With a time of 23:22, placed third on the team and 215th overall at the Paul Short Invitational (9/30).
As a sophomore in 2010: Placed fourth on the team and 115th overall with a time of 22:22 at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships (11/14)...Finished in 45th place with a time of 18:45 at the Atlantic 10 Championships (10/30)...Grabbed 19th place with a time of 18:29 at the Rothenberg Race (10/16)...Led the team to an 11th place finish out of 47 teams at the New England Championships (10/9) by crossing at 18:41 and taking 39th place out of 322 total runners...At the Paul Short Invite (10/1), crossed at 22:49 and finished in 167th place...Finished fifth out of 80 runners with a time of 17:58 at the UMass Home Meet (9/18) and was the team's top runner...At the BC Invite (9/11), was the top performer for UMass, taking 41st place out of 121 runners with a time of 19:03.
As a freshman in 2009: Had one of the best seasons in recent memory for a freshman at UMass... Won the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year award... Received Atlantic 10 All Conference honors... Was named the A-10 Performer of the Week once and the A-10 Rookie of the Week three times... In the four meets she competed in, she led the team each time... At the 6k NCAA Regional Qualifier (11/14), placed 23rd out of 243 runners with a time of 22:55... Helped lead the team to a third place finish out of 14 total teams at the Atlantic 10 Championships (10/31) by crossing at 20:09 and receiving All Conference honors... Also notched a ninth place finish out of a field of 140 at the A-10 Championships... Set best time of the season (18:10) at the Albany Invitational (10/17) and placed eleventh... Finished 16th overall out of 322 runners at the New England Championships (10/10), which was the first cross country race she ever competed in.
Before UMass: Ran indoor and outdoor track for Lowell High School under Coach Patrick Swett ...As a senior, finished eighth in the 800m outdoors at the Massachusetts state championships with a time of 2:17.45, to set the school record at Lowell High ... Finished sixth in the 300m and fifth in the 400m at the state meet as a freshman and sophomore, respectively ... Won a Division I state title in the 600m indoors as a senior and was an All-State runner up in the event, as well ... Named to the Lowell Sun All-Star indoor and outdoor track teams three times ... Tabbed the Lowell Sun Runner of the Year during the 2009 indoor season ... Selected as Team MVP for indoor twice (2008 and 2009) and outdoor once (2009) ... Named to both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic teams as a senior indoors ... Was named the most outstanding female athlete at Lowell High following her senior season ... In addition to the outdoor 800m record, also set new school marks for the 400m (indoor and outdoor), 600m, 600y, 800m (indoor) and 1000m (indoor) ... Was a MVC All-Conference runner in the 400m in 2008 ... Served as team captain for track as a senior ... Played three years of soccer at Lowell, and was captain of the team as a senior.
