FEATURE: Fastest Woman in Amherst?

Cross-country team captain Shiyi Zan '11 was born in Beijing, moved to Japan at age 4, and then to Canada at 8. A red-shirt junior, she's a kinesiology major with close-to-perfect grades and plans for a medical career. Zan finished first for the Minutewomen in every meet last fall. Her coach, Julie LaFreniere '77, describes her as "a pretty intense individual who strives for perfection athletically and academically." MORE

Jackson Named Track & Field Assistant Coach

Former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill assistant coach David Jackson has been named an assistant coach for the UMass track and field programs, it was announced today. Jackson spent the last two years working with the Tar Heels' sprinters, women's pole vault and multi-event athletes, including three All-Americans and four ACC champions. MORE

Wilson & Aguguo Finish Out ECAC Championship

The UMass women's track and field team finished off the weekend at the ECAC Championship with two athletes competing to finish 37th of 58 teams. Lisa Wilson (Holden, Mass.) highlighted the day, ranking eighth of 23 athletes in the shot put with a mark of 44-11.50 to score one point for the Minutewomen. Bakanowski Highlights ECAC Championship

The UMass men's and women's track and field teams competed at the IC4A and ECAC Championships this weekend at Princeton University in N.J. The Minutewomen accumulated five points, while the Minutemen did not score.
