Pre-Conference Meet Marks The Finale In Outdoor Regular Season

DURHAM, N.H. - On Saturday the women's track and field team will look to continue their outdoor success and finish the regular season strong before they host the A-10 Championships next week. Team has finished second place in the past two competitions, and placed first overall at the AIC Invitational in the outdoor season opener. Head Coach, Julie LaFreniere has had a pool of sophomores and freshmen step up this season to join the juniors and seniors, making it a complete team effort in all of their success to this point.
Last week the women placed second of seven with 138 points at the Holy Cross Invitational. UMass continues to get stronger with many of their performances being season bests. The team also added three New England qualifiers to an already lengthy list. Sarah Bitterman (Marblehead, Mass.) finished first in the 400 meter hurdles, qualifying for the New England Championships with a time of 1:03.17. Also giving a New England qualifying performance was Kayla Baldwin (Andover, Mass.) in the 100 meter dash. The sophomore finished fourth overall with a time of 12.59. The third New England qualifier was freshman, Ashley Palmer. The Phoenix, N.Y. native placed first in the long jump with a distance of 17-8.25.
The Minutewomen will look to continue their success in the 2012 outdoor season finale and continue their momentum, propelling them into the Atlantic 10 Championships. UMass will host the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championships May 5 and 6 next weekend at the UMass Track and Field Complex.
