NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - On Monday morning the Atlantic 10 Conference announced its 2014 Indoor Academic All-Conference Team consisting of 10 student athlete's who epitomize what it means to be a student athlete. Junior harrier, Rachel Hilliard was voted to this year's list for her excellence not only on the track but in the classroom as well.

Hilliard possesses a 3.99 GPA as a biology major and had the most decorated indoor campaign of her career on the track in 2014. Her championship journey began in the Atlantic 10 Championship when she finished sixth in the 3,000 meter run, seventh in the mile and assisted the distance medley relay in a sixth place effort.

In the following weeks Hilliard had the best races of her collegiate career, rewriting the UMass record books in the process. At the New England Championship the junior ran the mile in just 4-minutes, 53.08-seconds to claim the bronze medal and rank her third all-time in UMass history.

At the ECAC Championship Hilliard was part of the record-breaking 4x800 meter relay team in the preliminary round. The quad ran the event in 8-minutes, 50.56-seconds, blowing by the previous record of 9-minutes, 1.71-seconds. On the second day of competition the Hookstown, Pa., native ran the fourth best time at UMass in the 3,000 meter run crossing the finish line in 9-minutes, 47.45-seconds.

This week the Minutewomen begin their outdoor campaign at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. on March 28 and 29 at 11:00 and 9:00 AM for the UNF Spring Break Invitational.
