BOSTON, Mass. - On Sunday, red-shirted senior Kristen Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.) turned in her best performance of her career after taking first place in the pole vault competition at the ECAC Indoor Championships. With a height of 12 feet, 11.50 inches, Bakanowski posted a NCAA Provisional Qualifying height. Bakanowski's height breaks her previous record of 12 feet, 6 inches that she set at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships and sets a new record at UMass.

The NCAA Championships will take place March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

On Saturday, senior Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) and freshman Gina Perno (Plainview, N.Y.) also competed in the ECAC Championships. DeRosa placed fifth in the 5,000 meter run with a career-best time of 16:41.71, while Perno placed 20th in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:58.81.

The outdoor season will kick off on Saturday, March 29 when UMass hosts the UMass Five-Way Meet.
