Feb. 22, 2011
AMHERST, Mass. - Stephanie Aguguo and Sean Busch of the UMass track and field teams were both named UMass Co-Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Athletic Department on Tuesday. Aguguo placed first in the triple jump, the second longest in UMass history, while Busch took first place in the pole vault for the second straight year. Both athletes will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday at 12:15 PM in room 1009 of the Campus Center.
Aguguo's mark of 40-03.25 helped the Minutewomen to a seventh place finish overall at the A-10 Championships, and was just shy of tying the all-time mark at UMass. Her first place finish last weekend also earned her Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team honors. The Shrewsbury, Mass. native now holds the second and third longest distances in the triple jump.
Busch was crowned an A-10 Champion in the pole vault for a second consecutive year. The Stow, Mass. native tied the school and his personal record in the event for the second time this season while being named to the All-Conference First Team with his first place finish. Busch helped the Minutemen to a solid fourth place team finish with 87 points in a field of ten teams at the A-10 Meet. The senior is already previously qualified for the New England and IC4A Championships.
