Heather MacLean earns her second A-10 Rookie of the Week award

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After setting the University of Massachusetts indoor 800 meter run record last Friday at the Hemery Valentine Invitational the Atlantic 10 has named Heather MacLean as this week's rookie of the week. This is the freshman's second time earning the award and has also been honored as UMass Athlete of the Week twice in her young career.

MacLean has been the top competitor in the 800 meter run for the Minutewomen in all five of the team's regular season meets this season placing first in all but two meets. The Peabody, Mass. native ran the 800 meter race in just 2-minutes, 10.48-seconds and is now the fastest Minutewoman to compete in the event throughout the program's history.

The time came in a highly competitive meet hosted by Boston University on Friday February 7. The Hemery Valentine Invitational included some of the strongest teams in the Northeast including Rutgers, Cornell, Rhode Island, Dartmouth, Northeastern, Holy Cross, Maine, New Hampshire, UMass Lowell and many more. The time placed her 13th in a field of 160 competitors and has her ranked third in the Atlantic 10.
