Women's Track And Field Head To Great Dane Invitational
Jan. 21, 2010
AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's indoor track and field team will travel to New York, N.Y. this Friday for the Great Dane Invitational. The women's meet will feature over 37 teams and is shaping up to be one of the nation's most competitive meets of the weekend.
After a strong second place performance at last weeks BU Quad Meet, the Minutewomen are looking to carry their success into Friday's meet. At the BU meet, senior Lisa Wilson set a UMass school record in the shot put (45-00.25) and a UMass top five all-time mark in the weight throw (51-11.75). Wilson took first in the shot put and third in the weight throw, conversely scoring 15 points for the Minutewomen. Wilson qualified for the New England Championships in both the shot put and weight throw and the ECAC Championships in the shot put.
Freshman Nicole Pompei burst onto the scene in her first collegiate track meet. Pompei won the pole vault and qualified for the New England Championships with a height of 11-05.75, a mark that now puts her fourth all-time at UMass in the event. Hopefully this is only a sign of more things to come in Pompei's career at UMass.
The last top performance from last week's meet came from the 4X400 meter relay team of Brittany Bakanowski, Michelle Jenssen, Holly Heinricher, and Rosalind Murphy. The squad finished in 4:03.16 and scored nine points for the Minutewomen by finishing first overall.
The meet will commence Friday, January 22 at 3:30 p.m. in New York, N.Y.
