Women's Track and Field Defeats Boston University and Maine

BOSTON, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts Women's Indoor Track and Field team placed first with 59 points against Boston University and Maine Saturday December 7th.

Junior Christina Huff (Springfield, Mass.) led the way with first-place finishes in the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter dash with times of 7.26 and 25.58, respectively. Freshman Troyanah Evans (Cambridge, Mass.) also had strong performances in the 55-meter dash with a 7.51, finishing second, and in the 200-meter with 26.53, good for a third-place finish. Senior Kishana Hudson (Deer Park, N.Y.) also scored points for the team with a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash, posting a time of 7.54 and an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.67. UMass also placed well in the 400-meter event with performances from senior Kyanna Stallings (Newburyport, Mass.) whose time of 1:02.04 was good for second-place, senior Staceann Brown (Hartford, Conn.) who placed third with a 1:02.50, and junior Shannon Williams (Swarthmore, Pa.) who finished fourth with a time of 1:04.77.

The 500-meter was won by sophomore Elisabeth Budd (Springfield, Mass.) who ran a 1:19.49. Also placing was senior Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) whose time of 1:20.03 was good for second place, sophomore Lauren Fowler (Englewood, N.J.) placed fourth with 1:25.96 and freshman Tiffany Therrien (Fairhaven, Mass.) who placed fifth with a 1:34.20. Senior Kristen Ford (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and junior Denise DiPaolo (North Bergen, N.J.) placed third with a 2:19.45 and ninth with a 2:32.77, respectively, in the 800-meter. Senior Kate Markopoulos (Porter Corner, N.Y.) was the highest finisher in the mile with a time of 5:11.89 good for a third-place finish. Senior Tricia Silva (Amesbury, Mass.) led the way in the 3,000-meter run, clocking a time of 10:48.84 and recording a first-place finish. Also placing in the 3,000-meter were juniors Amanda Dahlberg (Gardner, Mass.) who finished third with a 10:52.71 and Alexis Anzelone (Westfield, N.J.) whose clocking of 11:00.67 was good for fourth place.



Senior Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) took first place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.65 and freshman Jessica Curran (Hopkinton, Mass.) placed fourth with a clocking of 9.14. Sophomore Ashley Creel (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman Katelyn O'Toole (North Andover, Mass.) tied for second place in the high jump with marks of 1.58 meters. Senior Chante Soares (New Bedford, Mass,) was the team's top seeded finisher in the long jump with a mark of 5.21 meters, and was fourth in the triple jump with a length of 10.42 meters, also good for fourth place. Freshman Marissa Oliveira (New Bedford, Mass.) placed second in the shot put with a mark of 11.92 meters. Leading the way in the weight throw was junior Jennifer Iasiello (Barrington, R.I.) with a distance of 13.89 meters.

The Minutewomen will be back in action next on Saturday January 17 when they travel to Boston, Mass., to compete against Boston University at 4:00 p.m.
