Bourque, Women's Track & Field Wrap Up A-10s

AMHERST, Mass. - As the UMass women's track and field team closed out competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships, freshman Rachelle Bourque set a school record in the javelin. Bourque took the silver medal in the event (139-08) and helped lead the team to a sixth place finish out of twelve teams. The Minutewomen amassed 65 total points over the two-day event.
Starting off the day was the 4X100 meter relay team of Rosalind Murphy, Katherine Finnegan, Emma Riedel, and Holly Heinricher. The squad was able to take first in their heat and eighth overall with a time of 48.38.
In the 1,500 meter run, Courtney Baldwin and Elizabeth Fisk both scored for the Minutewomen. Baldwin (4:33.58) and Fisk (4:34.53) took fifth and sixth place respectively. Both athletes have already qualified for the New England Championships.
Also scoring in the javelin was freshman Stefanie Danehy who tossed for a mark of 129-05 and placed fifth. In the 800 meters, Gina Perno also notched a fifth place finish with a time of 2:13.36. And in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles, Brittany Bakanowski grabbed eighth overall by crossing at 1:03.74.
Finishing fourth in the shot put was Lisa Wilson, who threw for a mark of 45-05.00. Stephanie Aguguo placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 37-08.75 while Ida Okkonen qualified for the New England Championships in the event with a tenth place finish and a mark of 37-08.00.
Freshman Katherine Finnegan qualified for the New England Championships in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.84 and a 16th place finish. Senior Holly Heinricher had already qualified for New Englands in the event, but was able to set her best time of the season by crossing at 25.13 and placing tenth.
Ending the day was the 4X400 meter relay team of Brittany Bakanowski, Michelle Jenssen, Gina Perno, and Deanna Julian. The squad grabbed sixth place in their heat and seventh overall with a time of 3:52.79.
Next up, the Minutewomen will head to the New England Championships on Friday, May 7. The meet will be held in Dedham, Mass. and will begin at 10:00 a.m.
