STORRS, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts women's and men's track and field team competed in the UConn Invitational Saturday April 17 in Storrs, Conn. The men finished in fourth of five teams with 21 points and the women placed fifth of six teams with 48 points.

Sophomore Christina Huff (Springfield, Mass.) finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.53 and clocked a 26.13 in the 200-meter dash, good for an eighth-place finish. Senior Kristen Ford (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) placed sixth in the 800-meter with her time of 2:19.19. Junior Amanda Dahlberg (Gardner, Mass.) recorded a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter with a time of 39:51.63. Senior Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.09 and ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.19. Senior Kate Markopoulos (Porter Corner, N.Y.) marked a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:00.18, a new personal and season-best time.

Junior James Godinho (Sandwich, Mass.) placed fourth in the 400-meter with a time of 49.31. Junior Matt Clark (Worcester, Mass.) clocked a 4:01.11 in the 1,500-meter, good for a fifth-place finish. Sophomore Paul Noone (Worcester, Mass.) placed fourth in the 5,000-meter with a time of 16:00.02. UMass faired well in the 10,000-meter as junior Andy McCarron (Lunenberg, Mass.) placed third with a 32:52.93, freshman Aaron Strellner (Highland Park, Ill.) placed fourth with a 33:14.91 and senior Rich Harris (East Windsor, N.J.) finished fifth with a 33:36.56. Sophomore Sean Corbett (Highland, N.Y.) clocked a 10:18.06 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, good for a fourth-place finish.



The women's squad will be back in action Saturday, April 24, in Durham, N.H., as they take on UNH, Harvard, and Maine. The men's team will compete in the New Hampshire Quad Meet in Durham, N.H., Saturday, April 24.
