Track and Field Competes at Brown Invitational

Providence, R.I. - The University of Massachusetts women's and men's track and field team competed in the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I., Saturday April 10. The women's squad finished fifth with 80 points. The men finished in 10th-place with 26 points.
Junior Christina Huff (Springfield, Mass.) placed second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.86 and also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 25.98. Senior Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.72 and third in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:04.02. Senior Kate Markopoulos (Porter Corner, N.Y.) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:13.11, a new personal best. Junior Alexis Anzelone (Westfield, N.J.) placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a clocking of 11:21.69. Freshman Katelyn O'Toole (North Andover, Mass.) placed seventh in the high jump with a personal best mark of 5' 3".
Senior John O'Neil (North Reading, Mass.) placed fifth in the 400-meter with a clocking of 49.85 and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.65. Junior James Godinho (Sandwich, Mass.) placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 21' 11". Junior Mike Carr (Rehoboth, Mass.) marked a 183' 1" in the javelin, earning a fifth-place finish.
UMass track and field will be back in action next April 14-15 at the Holy Cross Decathlon in Worcester, Mass.
